Joyeux Jour de Thanksgiving

Just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful day, even if you're far from loved ones, and to remind you to check out the fun design Google came up with for their home page in honor of the day.

Also, in honor of the bilingual and multicultural nature this blog often takes and my own multicultural ethnicity, I offer up this humorous accounting and attempted explanation of this unusual and unique American holiday. Enjoy!!


(Oh, yes, I checked, their is not an exact translation for the holiday we celebrate today. There is a rather interesting debate about it, however, if you are interested and can read some French. ^.^)

La Beauté

A few weekends ago I saw this at a conference I attended with some of the girls from church. It's amazing. It's a great thing to see someone finally putting this information where girls can readily see it and then to help them comprehend its implications. I just have to ask myself why it's taken this long for someone to stand up and say, "Hey, this isn't right. We've been hurting not only women but our society with this, and it's got to change." Watch this video and you'll see what I mean.



Shocking, isn't it?? You'll have to watch it a few times to catch everything that they did to "edit" the image; there's just so many changes.

Jeu d'indices

Mari watched Clue the Movie for the first time tonight. I love that film. I know it's a little weird, but it still cracks me up.

I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, but we found it on DVD for $5 at Target and I just couldn't pass it up. It was totally worth it to show to Mari...and perhaps a movie night with the teens. Now that would be funny. ^_^

Au Centre Ville

We went for a lovely walk last night around downtown. I'm very glad we did, because besides having fun we accomplished a few things while we were out...

We went to Stefano's for a chocolate coke (yes, it's yummy!)

Ran to the new "Near East Side" Bloomingfoods for some much needed groceries.

Last, but not least, we walked around the square so I could finally take pictures of our courthouse. The dome was replaced this summer with new copper (very exciting). I didn't get any pics of it when it was really shiny, but that's perhaps a good thing b/c it was hard to look at in the bright summer sun. Now it's kinda of a dull golden color.

Ma Rose!

La voilà!

Didn't I tell you it was getting ready to bloom? It went nuts! I re potted it a little over a month ago, and it has just loved it's new digs. (get it? "digs"?)

Ok, ok, enough of that for now. Actual news and things coming soon...

Mes Bonsaï

So, look what Mari bought me for our anniversary!
I love it. It's so pretty - and it's been blooming. Can you see the little white flowers?

I also found this one at the nursery that has a very interesting trunk...














(Take a look at this second picture to see what I mean....it's kinda on the backside of the plant.) I know it doesn't have a lot of leaves right now, but I just couldn't help falling in love with the shape of that trunk... I'm sure it will fill out after a few weeks and some good feedings.

I'm very excited. We were even able to find a full spectrum fluorescent bulb to help supplement the lighting but not drive up our electric bill! (We have very small windows, btw.)

Plus, it looks like my rose plant it going to bloom! It's the one that Mari bought me for Valentine's Day. ^.^ I'm sooo excited! Pictures soon!

La Vie en Rose

We actually went to a movie yesterday. La Vie en Rose (released as «La Môme» in France) was in the $5 Club, so I asked Mari if we could see it. It was a very well-made movie, but the story was, of course, tragic. If you don't mind sad endings and are interested in «la chanson française» or Edith Piaf, then you will probably like it.

Here's a video of Edith Piaf singing one of her most famous songs, Hymne à l'Amour. For those of you who don't speak French, there are subtitles (and they're fairly good ones, too!).
